It was last Sunday, a good day to be out riding, and so I was - I came up to a bike that looked very similar to mine in almost every way, except it was all black, had a steeply slanted screen and a few other differences at first notice - It was some type of CBR, that was obvious. We got to the red light where I had a chance to ask him what he was riding as there were no markings to identify the bike. He replied that it was a 97 Honda CBR 1100 Super Blackbird. Being just somewhat familiar with the bike I complimented him on its appearance and sound. He told me that this is the bike responsible for the development of the Hayabusa as the blackbird was the fastest mainstream bike on the market at the time. Not knowing if this was true I did some investigating!
So here are the stats for this bike for over ten years ago - I was most certainly impressed.
Honda CBR 1100 XX Super Blackbird
In-line Four
16 Valve
164.00 HP
Top Speed 183.3 MPH
So here is my bike and some quick stats: Honda CBR 1000F, 136Hp, 94 ft-lb Torque, top speed 168 mph - not bad for 1996. In the 80's and I think early 90's the 600 version of this bike was sold as "The Hurricane" and the 1000 its big brother. Back then, 88'ish, it was the bike to beat. For this version, the tires are bigger, the HP is +35% or more and it's ride is really solid. If you get a chance to pick one up for under 5k for a mid 90's and it hasn't been dropped or beaten on... I highly Recommend the purchase.
